TOLPUDDLE SY 7994 THE GREEN 15/186 Nos 1, 2 and 3 (formerly listed as 26.1.56 "Range of 3 Cottages 30 yards of School including Beechcote and No. 2") GV II Terrace of 3 cottages. Nos 1 and 2 probably C17 origin. No. 3 late C15 early C16. Plastered cob walls, hipped thatched roofs, brick stacks along ridge. One storey and attics. No. 1 at left end, has one stack at right end and one right of centre. Flush panel door in hipped thatched porch. Ground floor has 3 casements with centre horizontal bar. Attic has one dormer with similar casements. Internally, large central chimney stack - fireplace built up. No. 2, in centre, has shared stack at left end. Ledged door. Ground floor has one casement with glazing bars, one with centre horizontal bar, and 2 metal casements. Attic has three half dormers, with casements with centre horizontal bar. Interior not inspected, but in view of age of No. 3 may contain features of interest. No. 3 at right end, originally a long-house of open hall form - ie house with attached byre on right. This now incorporated in the house, but roof at lower level. Half hipped thatched roof. One brick stack at right end of house part and one, C20, inserted in byre. Ribbed ledged door. Ground floor has 4 casements with glazing bars - 2 of these in byre. Attic has 2 full and one half dormer - all with casements with glazing bars. Small single storey porch wing at rear. Internally, main ground floor room has large open fireplace with timber lintel and bread oven. Remains of true cruck truss adjoining byre. (RCHM Monument 3. Dorset Vol III) Listing NGR: SY7920594457
