3/240 Lower Sturthill 7-8-52 Farmhouse, (formerly listed as Broad Sturthill Farmhouse)

Detached Farmhouse. c.C17 with much C19 alteration. Rubble-stone walls, with large dressed quoins. Some brickwork at the eaves. Clay-tile roofs and Roman-tile roofs. Brick stack on inner left hand gable. C19 roof construction. L-plan. 2 storeys and attics. 4 windows, 3- and 4-light stone mullions, with hollow chamfers, possibly re-inserted. 3 wooden casements with wooden lintels over. Stone jambs and lintels survive in blockings. (South elevation) North elevation: early C18 brickwork raising the eaves. 4-light stone mullions with labels over. Wooden casements with horizontal glazing-bars. Interior: straight-chamfered beams with filleted stops. Open fireplace in north gable end, stone-jambs with a straight- chamfered wooden lintel. Brick bread oven removed. The C20 stone porch in the north-west angle of the house is not included. RCHM Dorset I, p 222 (10).
