Description
EAST CHELBOROUGH ST 50 NE LEWCOMBE 2/4 Parish Church 11.11.66 of St James GV I Parish Church. C12 core, with C16 fenestration and C18 alterations. Rubble- stone walls with ashlar dressings. Slate roofs with gable-ends. Nave and chancel undivided (38 1/2 ft by 15 ft RCHM). Single storey. North wall: 2 late C16 windows of 3 four-centred lights in a square head. South walls has 2 similar windows, eastern of two, and the western of 3 lights. Between them is the west jamb of a destroyed doorway, probably C16. The west wall has a square-headed C18 doorway with architrave and cornice. Round C18 window above it. East window round C18, with cusped tracery forming Jewish Star pattern, C19. Interior: Roof is plastered segmental wagon roof with a wooden soffit rising from pilasters to distinguish nave from chancel. Font: stone, with bulbous octagonal stem and bowl, C18. Communion Rails, wood with moulded balusters and rail, C18. Pews, oak with plain ends, full set, C18. Pulpit and Reading Desk in one unit, C19.
