Description

ST 30 NE THORNCOMBE 2/118 Beere Farmhouse with attached buildings at rear, to north II Farmhouse c1800. South front. Rubble walls rendered with stone pilasters at corners. Wooden modillion cornice with stone-coped gable-ends and slate roof. Three C20 brick stacks, one at each gable and one just left of centre. Two storeys. Three bays. Sash windows with moulded cement-stone architraves and stone cills. Panelled front door, central, with rectangular fanlight with glazing-bars. Portico carried on Tuscan half-columns and pedestals. Simple moulded entablature with castellated top. Possibly mid C19. North front; tall stone-mullioned windows of 2 and 3 lights with labels. C19. Interior: corridor hall with wide elliptical arch with acanthus moulded capitals and pilasters at foot of staircase. Staircase with mahogany handrail c1800. Fireplaces of white and black marble, recessed lancets in jambs and bracket- supports C19 1) Attached Granary/Loft to North-East, C18 possibly earlier. Rubble walls with stone quoins and stone arch-heads with projecting keys. Stone coping to gable-end. Slate roof. External stair with freestone treads at right angles to wall-face. Loft door pin gable end with beam and iron pulley-wheel 2) Attached cottage to North-West. Possible C18 cove. Rubble walls with stone quoins. Slate roof. Two brick stacks. C20 wooden casements. The farmhouse with its two rear attachments forms an open-U in plan. Listing NGR: ST3777405749
