Description

LONG STREET 1. 1625 (South-East Side) Former Castle Hotel ST 6316 1/150 II GV 2. Two storeys, 3 window bays. Plaintile gabled roof. Coursed rubble front. On first floor, 3-light sash windows to either end and a sash window to centre on first floor. On ground floor from left to right hand 3-light sash window, 2 sash windows and a carriage entrance at right hand end. On first floor, stone tablet between second and third windows reads "The Castle Inn 1800". Part of rear wing is of contemporary date. Premises occupied by Mr Pearson, Rose Cottage, former Castle Hotel, The Bank House, premises occupied by The National Westminster Bank, Old Bank House, and Abbot's Litten form a group with the timber framed structure to the rear of No 87 Cheap Street.
