Description

GOATHILL ST 61 NE - 6/48 Parish Church of 31.7.61 St Peter - II Parish Church. Some C13 remains, largely rebuilt early C19 (date 1804 on west gable). Chancel restored in 1873. Nave re-roofed in 1878. Rubble- stone walls, with diagonal buttresses to chancel. Clay tile roof (nave) and stone slate roof (chancel), with stone gable-copings. Gabled bell-cote on west gable, with crosses on other gables. Nave and chancel. Nave has two single lancets on south wall, and a late C13 lancet on north wall, of one trefoiled light with a label. Chancel has two lancets on south wall, and 3 stepped lancets for each window. South porch, rubble-stone walls and clay-tile roof with stone gable-coping. Entrance has a four-centred head. Plank-and-muntin door, with four-centred head, C19. Interior: small, pointed chancel arch, C19. Nave roof, semi-circular barrel, C19. Fittings: Font, tapering cylindrical bowl with central roll-moulding and chamfered stone plinth, C12. Pulpit: stone, with panelled and traceried sides, C19. Glass: east window, four roundels (a) a triple crown (b) a lily-pot with the initials W.I. and S.I. both C16; (c) and (d) fragments made up into shields, C17.
