Description

TINCLETON SY 79 SE 9/157 Former Village School GV II Former school and school house - now used as youth centre. Probably c1840 - architect probably Benjamin Ferrey. Brick walls, tiled roof with some fish scale tiling and crested ridge. One brick stack near centre and one at rear, with circular shafts with raised lattice ornament. Irregular L-shaped plan. Part single storey, part one storey and attic. Entrance front (west) has C20 single storey brick extension at left end. In original section, raised gable at left end, with stone carving of bishop's mitre. Part glazed door with fanlight and side-light, in stone surround, under hoodmould. In attic, a 2-light stone mullioned window with lead lights. Right of the gable, the original classroom has two 2-light stone mullioned windows with arched lights, under hoodmoulds. In end gable, facing road, a similar 4-light. window, the hoodmould with Coats of Arms on stops. Carved panel of roses above window. Largely unaltered.
