SY 5195/5196 POWERSTOCK NETTLECOMBE 11-11-1966 11/210 Horse Shoe Cottage and Ideal Cottage (formerly listed as Horse Shoe GV II Cottages)
Two attached Cottages, formerly a single farmhouse. Dated I.H. 1698 over front door. Ashlar stone walls, with hollow-chamfered plinth. Plain tile roof. Brick stacks at left hand party wall, centre (away from cross-passage), right hand gable end. 2 storeys. 4 windows, 3-light stone mullions, hollow-chamfered. Continuous moulded plat- band projects forward to form a classical cornice label over each ground floor window. Mouldings of plat band and labels are of good quality and differ. Oval window, original, over front door. Moulded stone frame and sunk relief in the spandrels. 2 serpent-heads to inner band of decoration. Datestone in sunk relief with form of chalice framing date, and lily beneath. Doorways: (Horse Shoe) original entrance to farmhouse, hollow-chamfered with depressed-arch in a square head. Plank door, C19. (Ideal), doorway knocked through between windows 3 and 4, plank C19. Source: R.C.H.M. Dorset I, p 185(13).
