NORTHERNhAY 1. 519l (North Side) Hangman's Cottage SY 6691 2/17 8.5.50. I II 2. C13, possibly earlier. 2 storeyed stone and brick cottage block with thatched roof. Curved on plan. Formerly 3 cottages, now 2. No 17 has higher eaves line, Hangman's Cottage has half-dormer. Projecting brick porch. Wood casements, some lead glazing. Hipped gables. The hangman who carried out the sentences at the "Bloody Assizes" is supposed to have lived here.
