Pair of houses in row. Early C19. Rendered (No.39) or painted brickwork (No.41), slate mansard roof. 2 storeys and attic, each 1 window; a flat-roofed dormer, with 4-pane sash to No.39, above bold canted oriels with reeded cornices, and with plain sash to No.39 and C20 casement with transom to No.41. At ground floor No.39 has a large plate-glass display window above a stall-board, with a door each side, that to the left with a transom light, and all in pilasters, under a frieze and cornice, interrupted by the skirt of the oriel. No.41 has a wide C20 4-pane sash, with a C20 door under a plain fanlight in plain reveal. A gable stack to the right. INTERIOR: not inspected. The rear wall of No.39 is said to retain a date stone of 1686 and the name Richard Vensont (RCHME: 142), but this would have been an earlier building on the site. (RCHME: Dorset, South-East: London: 1970-: 142).
