Boundary marker between Abbotsbury and Portland parishes. Predates 1788, when Robert Attwooll was paid half a guinea to cut the inscription. Portland stone. The only parish boundary marker needed for Portland, Chesil Bank being the only physical link to the Dorset mainland. The ceremony of 'Beating the Bounds' still celebrated occasionally on Ascension Day.
