Description

WEYMOUTH SY6878NW EAST STREET 873-1/24/86 (East side) 14/06/74 No.4 The Cutter Hotel GV II Hotel. Early C19, modified and extended mid to late C19. Rendered and scribed, slate roofs. The main front is to East Street, but the building returns to St Alban Street, and incorporates 2 later ranges to the right. EXTERIOR: main front is in 3 storeys, attic and basement, 1 window; a raking 4-pane casement slate-cheeked dormer above a small 16-pane sash in deep reveals and a larger 16-pane, with stone sills. Ground floor has a wide triple sash in an eared and flared architrave, with, to the right a C20 door and blocked transom light in a similar surround; above the ground-floor openings is a full-width sunk rectangular panel bearing the words CUTTER HOTEL in bold sans-serif raised lettering. A pavement grille to the left marks the basement. A coped parapet. The return narrow gabled end is plain, but at the ground floor has 2 plain sashes in surrounds as to East Street, and with a similar lettered panel over. To the right is (a) a narrow 4-storey range with 2 windows, plain sashes, a bold canted oriel to the right at first floor, and a door plus broad 4-light casement with transom and pilasters, then (b) a narrow gabled 4-storey unit, with a flat canted 2-storey plain sash bay to moulded cornices, offset to a narrower oriel at first floor with a narrow sash to its left. Ground floor has a panelled door to the left, and plain plank door to the right. INTERIOR: not inspected. Listing NGR: SY6806378896
