ST 8312 CHILD OKEFORD THE CROSS
9/1 Monk's Yard and the Cross
4-10-60 (formerly listed as Baytree
GV II Cottage and Monk's yard)
House now pair of cottages, medieval in origin, remodelled C17 and altered
C18, C19 and C20. Brick, Flemish bond with flared headers, timber-framing,
part ashlar projecting front bay. Thatched roof, hipped to the right and
gabled left. Brick stack near centre and to left gable. 2 storeys, 5 irregular
window range. 2 central bays project. Ground floor windows have segmental
brick heads. 2 and 3-light casements, some with horizontal glazing bars,
some with full glazing bars and some with leaded-lights. C20 part-glazed
door at extreme right. To the immediate left of this is a C20 garage door.
Internal features (RCHM): C16 stop chamfered beams; 4 roof-trusses, that to
the east retaining traces of smoke blackening. (RCHM, Dorset, vol. III,
