Manor house, medieval (possibly C13), with additions dated 1664 and 1695, and others of the C18, Cl9 and C20. Ashlar and squared rubble with gable-ended, stone slated roofs and stone stacks in various positions. 2 storeys and attics; south east front of 6 window range. Mainly 2 and 3-light, C17 stone mullioned, and mullioned and transomed windows, some with returned labels. 2 storey porch with 4-centred head doorway with an achievement of arms over. Projecting gabled wings left and right. Internal features: niche with 2-centred chamfered head and surround, possibly C13; first floor 4-centred head stone fireplace; voussoirs of possibly C13 opening; C16 ground floor doorway with moulded 4-centred head and continuous jambs; reset C17 panelling; C18 fireplace surround; C16 moulded plaster ceiling taken from Fiddleford Mill with geometric ribbing; drawing room contains recent copy of same ceiling. The quality of this house puts it at the top of the grade II* category.
