Description

ST 7813 STURMINSTER NEWTON CHURCH STREET (EAST SIDE ) No 20. (Church Farmhouse) 9/133 4.10.60 G.V. II House, possibly early C16 origin with C17, C18 and later alterations. Squared, coursed rubble, timber framing, tiled roof with brick stacks, hipped to the left and gabled to the right, Pantiled addition to the right. 3 room cross-passage plan with cross passage at rear of stack. 2 storeys, 4 window range. Ground floor left has c 1800 sash with glazing bars. To the right are 3 and 4-light wooden casements with leaded-lights. Fenestration pattern repeats on the upper floor. To the left of the stack is a c 1800 6-flush panel door with reeded panels. The doorway has scrolled pilasters and a moulded flat hood on scrolled brackets. Timber framing is exposed on the north wall. Internally, there are a number of interesting features including deep chamfered ceiling beams, C17 linenfoid panelling and a shouldered C16 doorway.
