Description

ST 72 NE GILLINGHAM WYKE 2/154 4/1 Wyke Hall 16.8.60. - II House, now 10 separate dwellings. C17 core, largely rebuilt 1853 and extended 1913. Rendered and ashlar walls, tiled roof. Paired octagonal stacks irregularly placed. In a free 'Tudor' style. 2 storeys and attics. Long irregular range. The East front has a number of C17 stone mullioned windows which are probably reset. 2 projecting C19 stone bay windows have brattished cresting. Irregularly placed doors in several locations. Main doorway between 2 southern bays. This has a C19 'gothick' porch with a pointed a pointed arch, embattled parapet and corner finials. It has a coat of arms over. South façade has C19 mullioned and transomed windows with cinquefoiled cusping. C19 and C20 extensions to the north. Not inspected internally but RCHM indicates it contains C17 and C18 fireplaces, panelling and decoration. (RCHM, Dorset, vol IV, p 33, no 58, p 33.
