ST 7317 STALBRIDGE HIGH STREET (EAST SIDE) Market Cross
7/30 4.10.60 GV II*
Market Cross. Second half of C15. Cross head C20. Stone 3-step octagonal base. Square plinth with three-quarters detached square columns in each corner with moulded bases and capitals. Central panels with carving too worn to be intelligible. Tapering octagonal shaft starting as square in the base with the corners turning into attached pinnacles which terminate in finials. To the west is a weathered carving of a figure standing on an animal under a canopy with a floriate finial. Scheduled as an ancient monument.
