Detached farmhouse.  Early C17, with C19 rear additions.  Walls of ironstone
rubble, hipped tiled roof with stone eaves courses; 2 stacks projecting from
rear wall, stone up to eaves, brick above, each with 3 shafts set diagonally,
with oversailing caps.  2 storeys and attic.  Original plan rectangular, of
3 main rooms, with projecting gabled stair tower at rear.  C19 rear wing at
right end, incorporating remains of a C17 cottage, and C19 lean-to along
rear wall.  Main front elevation has 3 added brick buttresses.  C20 stone
porch between 2 of these, with stone slate lean-to roof: doorway with 4-centred
arch flanked by narrow stone windows.  Ground floor has three 4-light stone
mullioned windows with lead lights, under label moulds.  First floor has
4 similar windows.  Rear wing has stone and brick walls and tiled roof with
stone eaves courses.  2 brick stacks - one rebuilt.  One storey and attic.
Passage through wing near main house.  Ledged door.  Ground floor has 3 C20
metal windows.  2 hipped dormers in attic with similar windows.  Internally,
entrance hall has 2 plank and muntin partitions - one re-set, with 4-centred
arched doorways.  At rear, 4-centred arched doorway leads into later lean-to.
Similar, blocked, doorway from lean-to into stair tower.  Left ground floor
room has large 4-centred arched stone fireplace.  Small cupboard in adjoining
wall, ventilated into fireplace.  Centre room has remains of plank and muntin
partition.  Right end room, kitchen, has segmental-arched stone fireplace and
4-centred arched doorway.  Stone spiral stair leads to first floor and attic.
Main first floor rooms have C17 ornamental plaster ceilings - restored - with
rose, crown and fleurs de lys motifs.  Left room has carved oak C17 draught
lobby, and 4-centred arched stone fireplace.  Similar fireplace in right end
room.  2 fireplaces, with timber lintels, in attic.  Rear wing has remains of
stack with large open fireplace, spiral stair and chamfered ceiling beams -
all C17.  House under repair at time of survey (1984).
