2. 1881-7 by Augustus H Parken. Rock-faced Purbeck stone in Early English style with Bath stone dressings. Big north aisle under separate gable has 11 lancets in north wall. Small transepts, polygonal apse with lancets, projecting plinth and cornice with saw-tooth ornament. Central tower rebuilt 1902-3 by Sidney Tugwell (spire removed 1966): 3 lancets to east and west, 2 to north and south, prominent pinnacles. Interior, which is by contrast of buff brick with red brick dressings, of considerable quality. 6-bay north arcade with circular stone columns and rich foliage capitals, red brick arches with flat soffit and thin roll moulding on chamfer. Foliage corbels to crossing arches (lower to transepts). Additional south transept off eastern bay of nave, 2-bay arcade on coupled columns between transepts. Interesting detailing of lancet windows, joined internally as pairs: 3 orders of moulded brick in massive jambs disappearing behind inner arches. Roofs with arched braces. Octofoil font on 5 columns. Stained glass in south transept and nave by Herbert Bryans, 1907-14. Reredos of Last Supper in marble surround.
St Paul's Church, Vicarage and forecourt and garden walls form a group.
