Description
1. 5186 IFORD LANE (North East Side) Superintendent's House at The Old Water Works SZ 1492 36/285A 17.1.74.
II GV
2. Superintendent's house next to road, 2 storeys, asymmetrical T-plan, with half- hipped gables, slate roof with ornamental tile ridge, segment-headed windows, flat-roofed extension. Both this house and the pumping station are included partly for industrial qualities, but principally for historical reasons : they were occupied 1900-13 by Russian emigres led by Count Vladimir Tchertkoff, who set up here the Free Age Press on which many of Tolstoy's later works (banned in Russia) were first printed.
Pumping Station and Superintendent's House at The Old Water Works form a group.
