6/51 Crooked Withies Farmhouse
II
Detached house. Mid-C17, enlarged c1960. Original range has timber framed walls, part plastered and part refaced or rebuilt in brick. Timber framing exposed in upper part of both gable walls. Sandstone plinth. Half hipped thatched roof; central brick stack. Originally of lobby entrance plan. One storey and attic. Wing added at right angles c1960, with plastered walls and thatched roof, forming L-shaped plan. Entrance now in this wing. In original house, inner facing wall has, on ground floor, 2 casements with glazing bars under wood lintels. Attic has one dormer with metal casements. Later lean-to along outer wall, of brick with slate roof. Internally, original timber framed partitions survive on both floors. Large open fireplace with timber lintel and bread oven in hall. Some exposed ceiling beams. Original roof structure survives, of tie and collar beam form. (R.C.H.M. Monument 26. Dorset Vol V).
