Description

CORFE CASTLE THE SQUARE (South side) SY 96 82 7/129 The Town House 20.11.59 GV IT* House, incorporating former Mayor's Parlour and Robing Room on first floor. These now used as Church Rooms, and entered from rear at upper level. Late C18. Ashlar stone walls, stone slate roof, brick end stacks and one left of centre. 2 storeys and attic. Full-height round-ended projection in centre. In this, on ground floor, an oak ledged door underlintol with projecting keystone. On first floor over, a curved bay window rising above eaves level with a 1/2-hipped roof - casements with lead lights. Flanking the projection, on ground floor, one casement each side, with lead lights, under lintol with projecting keystone. On first floor, one case- ment with lead lights each side of bay. Attic has 2 hipped dormers with casements with lead lights. Internally, main ground floor rooms have large open fireplaces with timber lintols. Curved plaster ceiling to Robing Room on first floor.
