627 - 2/CA4 SPRING STREET (East side) 19/450 Outbuilding with privy approx 2 metres to GV north of Manor Farmhouse

Outbuilding with privy. C18, possibly some modification in C19. Brick with chalk and flint, and cob partly rendered. Roof of plain tiles with stone slates to eaves at rear. Single storey, 2 cells. South front: centre rendered, right part of cob on rubble and brick plinth, left part of later brick. On left, board door with small, 4-pane, glazed panel leads into privy. On right, board door. Hipped roof. Rear: a straight joint between cells. On left, diagonally-boarded door. Left return of brick. Interior: cob partition wall between cells, partly rebuilt in brick, in the wall, a square, boarded opening with a small sliding shutter operated from the privy cell. Privy cell has 3-seater wooden privy, the left (child's) seat smaller and lower, each with hinged lid; skirting board to left end wall. Roof has log ridge-piece, of triangular section, and crude rafters, with one collar nailed in place at right end. An unusual survival.
