Description

EVERSHOT ST 5704 FORE STREET (South side) 7/34 No.31 (The Mansion) 4.12.51 GV II* Large attached house. Mid C18, with C17 south wing. Rubble-stone walls with ashlar stone quoins. Moulded stone cornice and brick parapet, with stone coping. Slate roof, hipped. Rendered stacks at ridge left hand, behind ridge, and at right hand eaves. Two storeys and dormers. 7 windows, with central 3 grouped more closely. Moulded stone architraves with projecting dropped keystones, and stone cills. Sashes with glazing-bars. Front door at centre, with moulded stone architrave, imposts and round head with keystone carved with grotesque face. Volute brackets and stone cornice over frame the round head. 8 fielded-panel door at centre, C20, with semi-circular fanlight, leaded. Front range: to street, single depth, symmetrical composition. Rear wall has a projecting circular staircase bay in the angle. Large sash-window, original, of canted form to glazing-bars, with moulded stone architrave and projecting dropped keystone. Rear wing at right angles: 2 storeys and dormers. 5 windows, one, two and four-light mullions, hollow-chamfered and with separate labels over. Wood and metal casements, first floor has sashes with glazing-bars. Doorway at right ground, c. C17 has square stone jambs, moulded imposts and elliptical stone head.
