Description
HIGH WEST STREET 1. 5191 (North Side) No 63 SY 6990 7/82 8.5.50. II GV 2. Adjoining above. Lower 3 storeys red brick front. Hipped tile roof. Ground floor has projecting shopfront with bowed ends. Fascia and dentil cornice, glazing bars removed. This appears to be early C19. On lst and 2nd floors there is a 3-light sash window with wide painted surrounds and painted aprons. lst floor window has pilaster strips between lights and moulded entablature. Moulded wood eaves cornice. Door with 2 moulded panels and ornamental frosted glass. Rear is apparently C17. Ground floor Ridgeway or Portland rubble. Timber-framed 1st floor with pink brick nogging. 2 storeys. Pitched tile roof. C19 brick stack. 3 ranges of modern casements with glazing bars. Original coped stone gable end on kneelers and with finial at north end. Nos 48 to 65A (consec)including the Shire Hall, Holy Trinity Church, the Museum, St. Peter's Church and monument to William Barnes in churchyard immediately south of West Tower form a group.
