Description
POUNDBURY ROAD 1. 5191 (North West Side) Former Married Quarters, Marabout Barracks. SY 6890 7/272 II 2. 1794. Architects: J Johnson and J Sanders. Chequer brick. Hipped slate roof. Brick stacks. Rubber voussoirs. 2 storeys. Parapet. Plain stone band above each floor. 11 ranges of sashes with glazing bars. Central 5 break forward slightly. Double doors with semi-circular fanlight. The Marabout Barracks were built for the Dorset Volunteer Rangers, later the Queen's Own Dorset Yeomanry, and were later used by the Royal Horse Artillery. They were always a cavalry barracks.
