Description

An earthwork survey and archaeological monitoring prior to and during works associated with a flood alleviation scheme affecting a field at the confluence of the rivers Hooke and Frome, with evidence of undated water-management system and structures associated with World War II defences. These latter features were outside the area of the groundworks. Subsequent archaeological monitoring within an area 18m wide and 220m long revealed that those features that were affected were only present within the topsoil and did not survive as sub-surface features. Only modern finds were present in the topsoil.
