Description

Five trenches 1.8m wide were dug by machine, 180 metres in total, comprising a sample of approximately 2% of the proposed development area. The evaluation produced largely negative results, with evidence of limited archaeological activity in Trench 4 comprising a feature interpreted as a probable ditch which may have derived from an earlier field division of post-medieval date, and a large natural hollow filled with colluvial deposits. The excavators felt that absence of artefacts suggested that the land had been used only for agricultural purposes.
