Description
Wessex Archaeology undertook an archaeological evaluation on the site of the Joseph Weld House hospice in September 1991. The evaluation comprised both fieldwalking and trial trenching.
Five 10x10 m squares were laid out for surface artefact collection and a 1.5x1.5 m trial pit was excavated at the centre of each fieldwalking square.
The surface collection produced large quantities of post-medieval and modern material , together with a single Black Burnished ware sherd, a single sherd of possible Late Bronze Age pottery and three flint flakes.
