Description
Trench C was one of four trial trenches excavated by Wessex Archaeology in late January 1987, to assess the archaeological stratigraphy between the scheduled area of the Roman Bathhouse and Icen Way, prior to the development of the site for the Dorchester Day Centre.
Trench C lay at the SE end of the site. Possible Roman structural levels were identified at a depth of 2.1m below modern topsoil (0.5m), chalk rubble (0.1m) and urban soils (1.5m). These possible Roman levels included two drystone wall footings of flint and limestone, which had been severely disturbed by post-medieval pits (1).
