Exeter Archaeology undertook a desk-based assessment of Channons Garage, in advance of redevelopment.
The archaeological potential of the site is high and archaeological material of all periods, but particularly of Roman date may be present. At least three Roman streets may run beneath the site. The east gate of the Roman town may lie close to the site and the defences may impinge on it. Mosaics have been found in close proximity to the site.
