Description

Wessex Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation of land within the grounds of St Genevieve's Convent, South Walks, Dorchester. This comprised a combination of both geophysical and auger surveys, and excavation of 8 machine cut trial trenches. Transect 11 was one of three auger transects, comprising a total of 29 points, generally spaced between 2m and 5m apart, in the northern portion of the site. Transect 11 ran for 12m in an approximately N-S direction to the southwest of South Court House. It was specifically located to examine the predicted line of the south face of the secondary counterscarp bank. The line of the bank was confirmed.
