Description

A trial trench (FR15) was excavated to investigate a number of soilmark features, by Wessex Archaeology as part of the evaluation of the course of the Southern Dorchester By-pass in 1987 (1). Trench FR15 was sited across the eastern side of a rectilinear soilmark enclosure. This revealed the ditch of the enclosure, which produced some Bronze Age pottery, a number of postholes and a gully within the enclosure and a substantial Bronze Age boundary ditch on the SE side of the enclosure. A single inhumation burial was found in this ditch. This trench was incorporated within a larger area excavation undertaken in 1987 by Wessex Archaeology and the results published together (1).
