Description

In July 1980, human bone was found at the back of 7 Orchard Street, Dorchester, during building works. The builders tried to hide the discovery and filled the trench with concrete before it could be observed archaeologically. Subsequent discussion with the workmen indicated that three skulls were found under the southern side of the footings trench, though the remains of only two skulls survived. According to the builders, the burials were oriented N-S. Their location suggests that they were part of the cemetery belonging to the Friary.
