Description
Members of the DNHAS were able to record a portion of one of the Roman Streets of Dorchester, which was found during additions to the workshops of Mr. Skyrme at 64 High West Street, Dorchester [1].
It was though by C.D.Drew to point to the south exit of the town. The metalling, damaged on the west side, was 18ft wide, although probabaly originally at least 21 ft. A thin layer of chalk had been laid over an old turf line, 2 ft of steeply cambered flints had ben laid on top of the chalk layer and capped by three thin layers of chalk, sand and gravel. Ruts, holes and repairs to the metalling were all visible [2].
