Description

Several inhumations and perhaps some cremations were found during the laying of drains in Albert and Cornwall Roads, on the north side of the Borough Gardens, during 1896. Another burial found in Albert Road in 1898 had a bronze armlet [1]. Opposite 8 Albert Road the skeleton of a man was found with buried with an expanding bronze bracelet clasping the thigh just above the knee. A jar was found nearby above a skull and thought to contain a cremation [1], other human remains, including skulls, were found in the vicinity [2]. Another vessel was found in Cornwall Road. The skeleton of a woman in Albert Road had an armlet on each wrist of 4-ply twisted bronze wire [1]. Moule also observed masonry on Albert Road in 1896, although he thought it not substantial enough to represent remains of the west gate of the Roman Town [3].
