Description

Twenty five skeletons were discovered during construction work for the County Police Station in 1859 [1]. At first either three or five were discovered in a pit prior to 17/3/1859 [1][2][3]. They were buried in 'an upright position' with three pottery vessels placed above them. Eventually 25 burials in total were unearthed prior to 28/4/1859 and most of the latter group were extended inhumations aligned E-W or W-E. Two roman coins and 10-12 pottery vessels were recovered in association with the latter group of burials [1].
