Description

C.J.S. Green observed the digging of three trenches in the gardens SW of Lloyds bank, 2 High West Street, Dorchester between 1963 and 1965. The excavations exposed a flint gravelled surface at a depth of 0.75m below the surface. This gravel surface was laid on a layer of chalk rubble overlying brown loam of probable natural origin above the chalk. This gravel may have been continuous with a similar surface seen in Cornhill (EDO4382).
