Description

A fragment of a tessellated floor was found in 1902 on the site of the gasworks, Icen Way, Dorchester (1) (2). The circumstances of the discovery are not known. Some tegulae (3) and the bronze handle of a key of a common Roman military type (4) were also found. The design of the tessellated floor included a guilloche pattern (5). A few red, white and grey tesserae remain in the Dorset County Museum (1).
