Description

A field survey was conducted on the Fordington Farm barrow site, Dorchester, by J. Rigg. of the Ordnance Survey Archaeological Division on the 21 August 1954. His field notes are recorded on the OS record card as follows. At SY69898988, A grass covered mound crossed by an east-west fence. It is 40.0 m east-west and 42.0 m north-south. Maximum height 1.0 m. No ditch. It has been ploughed and spread and south of the fence it merges gradually into the surrounding ground. In view of the proximity of other barrows this mound may be a barrow. On the other hand it may be a natural feature. If a barrow it is a bowl barrow. [1]
