Description

A site visit was conducted by J. Rigg of the Ordnance Survey Archaeological Division on the 20 August 1954 at the site of the Franciscan Friary, Dorchester. His site notes are recorded in the OS record card as follows. Enquires made in the areas ‘A’ and ‘B’ [two putative sites for the Friary based on the OS 1:500 plan of Dorchester, 1887, and a 1771 plan held in the County Surveyors Office] produced negative information. No trace of antiquity was found in the area [1].
