Description
Christopher Sparey Green observed some of the groundworks associated with the construction of the new Dorset County Library in 1965. He recorded a section along the north wall footing of the library (1) and observed and recorded several features in a drain trench running north from the library (2).
In the library footings trench, he recorded an oblique section through the Roman road first discovered during excavations on the Library Site in 1961-63 (3). In the drain trench, two walls composed of mortared limestone and flint were recorded, with much building rubble, including painted wall plaster and a fragment of Ham stone guttering, found between them.
