Description

ASI Heritage consultants conducted an archaeological watching brief during May 2004, on the manual excavation of footings for a 'cross-swing' and 'spring seats' at Abbey Farm, Abbotsbury. The site lay within the St. Peters Abbey scheduled ancient monument. The only deposits revealed were interpreted as made-ground layers dating from the 18th-19th century, probably filling an earlier feature. No damage was done to significant archaeological deposits but the work here may indicate the survival of significant features in the area of Abbey Farm.
