Description
AC Archaeology conducted an archaeological evaluation in advance of proposed development of land off Rosemary Lane, Abbotsbury during July 2000.
The evaluation comprised the excavation of two 1m x 3m machine trenches. Modern deposits at least 1.2m in depth lay directly on top of the natural subsoil. The subsoil was unweathered, suggesting that landscaping had taken place prior to the deposition of modern spoil. No archaeological features were recorded and no pre-modern artefacts recovered.
Trench 2 was aligned approximately E-W and located partially below the modern no.3 Galway Cottages and partially below its back garden to the west.
