EDO5020 - Discovery of Human Bones at a timber yard,Junction of Newland and Hound Street, Sherborne

At some time prior to 1815 an undisclosed quantity of human bones was discovered at a timber yard located in the triangle of land formed to the east of the junction of Hound Street and Newland. The only source for this event is an annotated town plan of Sherborne on page 75 of the second edition of Hutchins' 'History and antiquities of the county of Dorset'. This plan marks a spot at the centre of the triangle and describes it as: ‘A timber yard, where human bones are found, supposed the site of a church or chapel.’ The wording might suggest that human bones were unearthed here on more than one occasion prior to 1815.
