Description
AOC Archaeology Group undertook an archaeological desk-based assessment of land at Barton Farm, Yeovil Road, Sherborne during 1999 in advance of the proposed purchase of the site by Beazer Strategic Land.
The site is an irregular triangle of land between Yeovil Road, Sheeplands Lane and Marston Road, on the NW edge of Sherborne. The site does not appear to have been subject to any modern development with the exception of a NW-SE aligned field drain which bisects the site.
The site area does not contain any listed buildings or scheduled ancient monuments and lies immediately NW of the Sherborne Conservation Area. There are however, several Sites and Monuments Record entries surrounding the site which may have some degree of influence on any proposed development.
