Description
AC archaeology carried out an evaluation of the site of the Bridport Community Hospital, prior to the construction of the hospital in 1993. Five machine trenches were excavated in the areas not affected by previous disturbance and landscaping.
Trench 2 was a 9m long machine-cut trench running N-S up and down the slope and effectively represents a continuation of Trench 1. The natural Bridport Sands were revealed at a depth of 0.25m. Two linear features aligned E-W, a gully and a possible terrace, were found, both filled with topsoil with ash, coal and modern glass.. No features or deposits of archaeological significance were found.
