Philip Brebner undertook an historic building survey of the Bridport Arms Hotel, West Bay in May 2003, in advance of renovation and redevelopment of the hotel. The survey included a descriptive and analytical survey, photographic survey, and review of documentary sources.
The survey has elucidated the history of the building from a single house with fold yard in the early 17th century, with a public house from at least the early 19th century. The development of the public house into the Bridport Arms Hotel in the 19th and 20th century resulted in the gradual loss of earlier historic features and much of the earlier historic interior.(1)
