Description

A largely desk-based assessment of the archaeology and cultural heritage of part of the south west quadrant of Bridport including St Michael's Trading Estate, the Coach Station and adjacent Car Park. There have been no previous archaeological investigations on the site limiting knowledge of its archaeological potential. Most of the area was probably farmland during the medieval period and became used for rope and net making factories during the 19th and 20th centuries. Many of the surviving buildings within the study area are related to this important Dorset industry. An initial rapid survey was also made of the surviving structures in order to identify and assess the importance of the former industrial buildings.
