Description

The Christchurch Antiquarians (TCA) website (http://www.communigate.co.uk/dorset/xchurchantiquarians/page11.phtml) accessed on 8/10/2008 records that the group took part in the excavation of a test pit in the garden of Millhams Meade over the weekend of the 21-22 October 2006. The pit measured 1m x 2m and was excavated to a depth of 1m. It was hoped that evidence for the town mill might be revealed. A gravel ridge was revealed at depth of 0.4m but the excavation was hampered by flooding below 1m depth. Auguring through the bottom of the pit revealed an organic layer at a further 1m depth.
